Contrary to an old saying, the sky is not blue because it reflects the ocean. Instead the reason why the sky seems blue is because the light from the sun splits on its way through the atmosphere. Light from the sun contains all colours and therefore is considered as white. However, when the light enters earths atmosphere, the molecules in the atmosphere splits the light. The atmosphere mainly contains oxygen and carbon molecules, which in particular splits shorter light rays. Blue is the shortest wave length visible by the human eyes, and that is why the sky seems blue.
